IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR!

This is the time of year when I start booking rising seniors in Rochester, Minnesota and the surrounding areas. The most common question once a client books is, "What should I wear?" This blog post should be a great resource for you with pictures and examples of how to dress for your senior session.

MODERN WEST

This western hat and red suede jumper along with simple jewelry and a fresh manicure. is a perfect way to elevate Lauren's look for her senior session.

SUMMER STYLE

Patterns near the face can be distracting unless they are small like this one. Pairing a small patterned shirt with a solid short in the same color family really works for this modern take on an old classic combo for a summer senior session.

CLASSIC SPORTCOAT

Pair a sportcoat with a button down shirt and khaki pants and you have a classic Ivy League/collegiate look. Accesorize with a leather belt and shoes and you are good to go for a classic look that will stand the test of time.

STYLE MATTERS

What Should I Wear?

Your high school senior session should reflect who you are plain and simple. Although it is incredibly important that your clothing choices should reflect your personal style, it is also important to bring one outfit that would be considered classic, because you will want your pictures to be timeless; something you can enjoy for years to come. Wear an outfit that flatters you, and is clean and pressed. Make sure you take the time to remove any "fuzzies" or animal hair. Bring all your clothing choices on a hanger so that they stay neat. The more neat and tidy your clothing looks, the more polished you will look! Avoid stripes and plaids, especially near the face. Wearing busy patterns only takes away from you! Keep jewelry simple and complimentary to your outfit. In addition to your sports uniform and casual wear, men may want to bring a suit or sport coat with jeans, or a nice sweater; women should bring a dark wash jean and nice simple scoop neck or portrait top paired with either boots, heels or ballet flats, they may also wish to bring a beautiful formal dress. An A-line dress that is cinched at the waist goes with any body type and is very flattering in photographs. Additionally, a long flowing floor length dress can be quite dramatic in contrast to an informal setting. There are lots of ways to get a fancy dress for a shoot. Hit the sale racks, friend's closets, a second hand shop, or shop on line. There are places like, Rent the Runway where you can rent a designer dress for a fraction of the actual cost. I also have a style closet of fabulous choices for outfits in different sizes that you can borrow for your session. Ask me at your consultation and I will be sure to show you! Remember to bring coordinating shoes, belts and jewelry for each outfit. Take a look at a past blog post written by Maria for some pointers. Her mom has a great organization tool for transporting outfits as well!

FASHION FORWARD

This brocade jacket really shows confidence and style. Wearing this style of jacket paired with either a black tie, a bolo or even a silk kerchief with a cameo pin makes a showstopper of an outfit for your senior session.

SUMMING IT UP...

Whatever you choose to wear should be something you love, and something in which you can easily move. A dress with free flowing fabric is terrific to show movement. We do a lot of moving around and if you are busy worrying about the way your outfit fits you then you will not be comfortable and it will show in your photos.A sports outfit will help you not only highlight your extracurriculars, but it will also help you to move move more easily if you are dressed for the sport you are trying to showcase.
